The Var Mala ritual is main ritual that is performed on main wedding day. Hindus give the most importance to this ritual among all wedding rituals.

Some Hindus are familiar with Var Mala as Jai Mala. In this ritual firstly bride welcomes to her groom and puts sacred garland around groom’s neck. Same activity is performed by groom during vedic chant. The Var Mala or Jai Mala ritual signifies that both bride and groom accept each other as husband and wife. Growing the nine pulses: It is very old wedding ritual. In this ritual three married women collects nine kinds of rational pulses and mix all with honey and milk in a mud pot. These three women are represented as Goddess Saraswathi, Lakshimi, and Parvathi, who to be divine witness of wedding ceremony and bless to newly wed couple for their new life.

Inviting groom and his family: In this ritual groom, his friends, relatives and all his guests are invited by bride’s side at wedding place for main wedding ritual.

Tying the charm:Â A holy thread dipped in turmeric is made powerful by prayers to protect bride and groom. This thread tied on the right wrist of the groom and bride. It is consider that this thread will protect wedding couple from harm.

Dressing the couple: Wedding dress and wedding garlands are offered to wedding couple. Bride’s sister and groom’s brother and some cases close relatives perform other rituals. Thus Hindu wedding ceremony is celebrated to apply various rituals.
