Some Hindus are familiar with Var Mala as Jai Mala. In this ritual firstly bride welcomes to her groom and puts sacred garland around groom’s neck. Same activity is performed by groom during vedic chant. The Var Mala or Jai Mala ritual signifies that both bride and groom accept each other as husband and wife. It is also one of the funniest rituals. If groom is taller than bride then bride has to do extra effort to putting garland around his neck. The bride’s mother does a special welcome puja and then pinch the groom’s nose ritual is performed by her. It symbolizes that groom ask for her daughter’s hand. Thus Hindu wedding allows different rituals.

The wedding rituals are performed to remember ancient Hindu culture. The important fact about Arya Samaj Wedding is that it to be different from today’s modern wedding in many aspects such as it not to be profligate. In Arya Samaj marriage no God is worshipped, even instead of it natural elements such as fire, air and water is worshipped.

The priest completes all wedding rituals and read Vedic chants as well as explains the meaning of wedding to the newly wed couple. This is very important part of wedding since it gives real meaning of marriage in life and help them to live together lifetime. Some rituals and customs are similar in Arya Samaj Wedding to Hindu wedding such as Madhuparka, Parikrama, Shilarohan and Pani Grahan.

The bride offers holy water three times to groom in the Madhuparka ritual after that groom have to taken Madhuparka. It is made of honey, cream and curds. Panigrahan is the most important wedding ritual in which groom holds the hands of bride and make promises to live together in all circumstances including good and bad. Thus Arya Samaj Wedding is not lavish like other weddings.

In Hindu wedding Act first came into power on 18th May in the year 1955. Any person who belongs to the Hindu community must register his marriage according to the Hindu Marriage Act.

There is a stipulation beneath the Marriage Act that says any individual who is a Hindu in religion is relevant for the Hindu Marriage Act. The act can also be applicable to Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains. The law also says that the groom must be at least 21 years of age and the bride to be 18 years to lawfully get wedded.

The law states that both the couples should be Hindu by religion and should not be inside the association of banned degree. The duo should not be theme to usual assaults of epilepsy or lunacy.

The couple should not be a sufferer of mental disarray nor should they be flabby for wedding. In the olden wedding law it allowed polygamy but the recent Hindu Marriage Act forbid it. Child wedding that subsisted in the early days is completely vanished according to the Hindu Marriage Act. The dowry system that was largely adept in the early days is also forbidden beneath the Marriage Act.

There are many rituals are applied during wedding in India. These rituals start from ring engagement and continued after wedding till Vidai. Each wedding ritual has its distinguished feature and it has been following for ancient time.  Mandap ceremony held before two days from focal wedding day. It is considered that four pillar of Mandap are four “Ved” in Hindu community and it’s bless are necessary for happy and delighted life. “Haldi Rasam” is also a chief wedding ritual in which prospective bride and groom both applied turmeric paste by relative and friends.
Groom goes with procession at wedding place to getting married with bride. There are seven rounds around the holy fire taken in which bride and groom both make seven promises in regards of each other. Bride and groom put garland to each other thus focal wedding ritual completed. “Vidai” is the last wedding ritual in Hindu wedding in which bride is sent with groom to lead a happy life. Such as Hindu wedding ceremony take many days to complete.
