Bengal is well known for the beauty, their culture, sondesh and their macchi bhat. The Bengali girls are famous for their beautiful eyes and long hair. The Bengali marriages are too good to see. The Bengalis are strong worshipper of Devi Durga and before doing anything good they first worship to the Devi Durga. Generally the Bengali marriages are arranged by the ghotoks. They are the matchmakers who make contact with the family those who want their sons and daughters to be married.
Engagement ceremony- the engagement ceremony is called as the patri patra ceremony in Bengali. In this ceremony the bridegroom and the bride family send the invitation card to their friends and relatives and then the engagement or ring ceremony is performed.
Decoration – the rangoli are decorated with all the colors at the door entrance to welcome the guest.
Vridhi ceremony-In this ceremony the forefathers are worshipped for the good life and successful marriage of the bride and bridegroom.
Dodhi mangal –In these ceremony ten women give bath to the bride and after that they are offered the curd with rice and fish. This ceremony is done at both houses as a customary practice for good luck.
Piris-this is the wooden plank decorated by the family in which the bride and bridegroom sit for the marriage ceremony.
Tattavas- in this ceremony the gifts are exchanged between the bride and bridegroom.
Then bride wears the red banarsi sari and the bridegroom wears the cotton dhoti kurta at the time of marriage and then the saat phere and bidai is done.
